Brisbane Book Festival

Wrapped up New Zealand in a bit of a whirlwind, swinging through Christchurch and Wellington (and eating some white bait fritters). Then I zipped off to Brisbane, a stunningly beautiful city by any account. The book festival is wonderfully run and well organized, with a terrific range of authors – one of the best festivals I’ve attended. I had a great discussion with Lisa Unger – a terrific writer and person – and a panel on visual writing with Stephen M. Irwin (immensely talented Brisbane-based writer) and Louis Mowra (of Ice fame).

And sneaking off between panels and speeches has provided plenty of fun, whether that’s riding the giant ferris (like the London Eye but not quite as big) or eating Moreton Bay Bug (mmmm…..bug). I’ve included a few pictures from the past couple days.

    Gregg,

Great to hear you’re having a good time. I have a friend who lives in Brisbane. I’m going to send her this link so she can see what you’re saying about her city and the book festival there.

Hi Gregg ~ and thank you, Elyse ~ it’s great to see Gregg’s having a wonderful time here in Brissie (the River City). I’ve read that the organisers of the BWF like to thoroughly pamper their guest writers and it looks like they are living up to the reputation – yay! I’m guessing they’ve arranged a spectacular vantage point for you at tonight’s Riverfire. Enjoy! Sorry I’m missing your presentations at the Festival {prior commitments}. Ouch. That’s me kicking myself again. Glad you’ve experienced Moreton Bay Bug. It’s one of my favourite seafoods. Delicate. Sweet. Mmmm, indeed. Such an unflattering name for something so delicious. Have a ball and safe trip home.
