It’s how Orphan X answers the phone every time
someone dials his encrypted number.
And on the other end of the line—a victim with nowhere else to turn.
But as of late, he’s been asking a different question:
“Can we have your help?”
The X Fund provides direct relief to those in danger of falling through gaps in America’s safety nets. Many folks live on the financial edge. Nearly half of Americans cannot cover a $400 emergency. That's where we step in to help deserving hard-working individuals get back on their feet after a crisis strikes.
Our missions have included:
- Furnishing a high school in rural Tennessee with a new computer lab after devastating flood damage.
- Housing a homeless family with a sick infant until the baby recovered and the family could find work and housing.
- Helping a woman who was living out of her car alongside her dog find work and a roof over her head.
- Setting up a literacy program for homeless, pregnant mothers in Los Angeles in partnership with Harvest Home, a charity providing 28 of the 70 shelter beds designated for soon-to-be-mothers in LA.
- Financial tuition assistance for students with dyslexia to afford specialized education to achieve grade appropriate literacy skills.
- Rent payment to assist a financially challenged college student who is funding his own education at Tallahassee State College.
- Financial tuition assistance for a student to continue education during family hardship.
As the fund is a 501c3, all donations are tax deductible, and 95% of money raised goes directly to those who need it, not to overhead.
We ask for your help, no matter how small.
Because anyone can be a hero.
After Orphan X completes a mission, he asks his client for only one thing: to find someone else in need.
In this spirit, once X Fund provides help, we ask the deserving recipient to pick someone else to give $250 dollars to, a final act of empowerment. This ensures that the cycle of charity occurs at a local level and reinforces the values of giving and gratitude within that community.

A couple found themselves homeless with their sick newborn baby
Three months ago, following a chain of unfortunate events, the family found themselves on the street.
For this family in rural Tennessee, it was the perfect storm. After their car broke down, the new father lost his job because he couldn’t get transportation to the workplace. They spent all their savings moving to more affordable housing, but then got evicted.
The situation became more serious when their baby was diagnosed with an RSV infection. The family needed a roof over their heads while they figured out what to do next. The X Fund stepped in and paid for a hotel so the baby could get medical care and the parents could have a chance to regroup.
The baby is now healthy and the father was hired to work a factory job. With partners on the ground, the X Fund got the father signed up with the American Job Centers, which offers career counseling, job listing and other employment- related services. His long term goal is to become active military or law enforcement.
With every X Fund donation, we ask the recipient to pick someone else to give $250 to — someone who might not be noticed by others but who the recipient knows is in need. This young Grundy family used the money to purchase a $250 grocery card for their son’s maternal grandmother. She helps care for her grandson, and this money will be used to cover basic necessities as the family gets back on their feet.
